Home / Social Studies of Medicine

The proposed course “Social Studies of Medicine” will draw on interdisciplinary studies to examine medicine’s integration with biological sciences, the translation from laboratory to clinical settings, and patients’ personhood and living worlds. The course also adopts a global scope—it not only looks at medicine in the west, but also explores how medicine translates to non-western societies, and how “traditional” medicine such as Chinese medicine has transformed to respond to the “modern” medicine.
