In “Armchair science” (link), recently published in Aeon, Institute alumus Dan Falk discusses the history and philosophy of scientific thought experiments. Beginning from Galileo’s famous thought experiment of dropping objects on a moving ship, Falk goes on to explain present-day debates over the epistemic status of such experiments. His article features the work of three IHPST members: IHPST alumnus Dr. Michael Stuart, Professor emeritus James R. Brown, and core faculty member Professor Yiftach Fehige, who all collaborated on the recent volume The Routledge Companion to Thought Experiments (2017).

Great article Dan!
