Mathew Mercuri, an epidemiologist with a PhD in Health Research Methods from McMaster University (2013) and current graduate student at the IHPST, will be teaching “HPS302: Topics in the Philosophy of Science: COVID-19: Epistemology and Societal Implications” in the summer session as an online course.

This course will cover a variety of topics related to the outbreak of COVID-19, including pandemic modelling and epidemiology, approaches to community and international public health response (e.g. border closures, protective equipment, social distancing, isolation, testing and tracking), and the impact on economic, social, and educational activities.  Portrayals of the pandemic by media, government, and the scientific community will also be examined.
