Funds in the form of a subsidy will be available to support research for IHPST graduate students. The total amount of funds available to each IHPST graduate student is $2000. This figure includes any amount requested to support graduate conference travel (which is presently capped at $500/student). If you have applied for and receive the maximum $500 for conference travel, the amount available for research will be $1500. The effective period for this initiative is March Sept. 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021.
Requests for research subsidies should be sent to the Director of Graduate Studies. To be eligible, applicants (a) must have achieved candidacy; (b) arrange for a letter to the DGS from your supervisor confirming that your program of studies is on track; (c) a brief statement of your research objectives; and (d) submit documentation that supports your request for research funds. For example, if you ask for funds to spend a term at Cambridge HPS, you will need to submit a letter from Cambridge in support of your visit. If you wish to spend time at an archive in New York, you will need to submit a letter from this archive confirming your access to this material. It is expected that applicants will apply for an SGS Research Travel Grant before submitting a request to IHPST.
