Jessie HallMy research is most aptly described as philosophy of computing, which might be characterized as some unholy intersection of philosophy of mathematics, philosophy of language, and to an extent, metaphysics more generally. I am interested in what it means to call a system “computational”; tracing the influences of mathematical (Turing and other) computability, functionalism, and various stripes of reductionism, on conceptions of physical computational systems, brains as computing systems, and ‘abstract’ computing.
